Historical memory never disappears, and the awakening of “sleeping historical energies” played a key role in the destruction of the USSR, said philosopher, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on June 20 in the broadcast “Destiny” published on the movement’s YouTube channel.
“Zbigniew Brzeziński called this sort of things… the awakening of the historical time, the actualization of the historical time, the ability to awaken the sleeping historical energy.
This is what was recommended to do in relation to the destruction of the Soviet Union in order to achieve what was called victory without war. Sleeping historical energies had to be awakened. And I watched with my own eyes how they were awakened,” Kurginyan said.
The political scientist reminded how national conflicts broke out in all the national peripheries of the USSR because of seemingly long forgotten contradictions in the Caucasus and Central Asia.
“All that suddenly emerged from under the historical waters to the surface saying, ‘Hello, it’s me. I am as new and clean and alive as 200 or 300 or 1000 years ago,’” Kurginyan noted.
According to the leader of Essence of Time, this is exactly the way historical memory works: it “never disappears,” and it can be mainstreamed in the pivotal moments for the country and the people.
“One can try to lock it into a sort of an underground, but later it re-emerges and starts working again. There is something fatal and pivotal at the same time in this,” Kurginyan concluded.
