The LPR People’s Militia units, supported by artillery, are fighting the Ukrainian military in the industrial zone near the Azot plant in Severodonetsk, RIA Novosti reported on 12 June.
The head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov earlier said that the Ukrainian militants took about 300 civilians hostage by driving them into the underground premises of the Azot plant in Severodonetsk. This information was obtained during the interrogation of the POWs.
“We have information that there are somewhere around three hundred people of civilians that they drove into some basement and mined everything,” the aide of the head the Chechen Republic said.
LPR ambassador to Russia Rodion Miroshnik wrote on his Telegram channel on June 11 that civilians began to leave the Azot chemical plant blocked by the Russian Armed Forces and LPR People’s Militia.
The Ukrainian militants demanded to be allowed to leave the territory of the plant for Lisichansk together with the hostages. In turn, the Russian military and LPR units demanded that they release the hostages and surrender.
According to Miroshnik, movement in the western districts of Severodonetsk is currently restricted due to regular Ukrainian shelling from the Lisichansk and Privolye direction.
Only people who have come to take their close relatives to the eastern districts of Severodonetsk are allowed in. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situation and the military deliver humanitarian aid to local residents.
The Russian and LPR military maintain order in the city. The period of looting, which began during the retreat of the Ukrainian militants, is over.
