Due to the collective West’s fear of a potential restoration of the USSR and a return to the times when Russia was a superpower, it attempts to rewrite and demonize the Soviet period of Russian history more than other ones, said philosopher, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on May 11 in an interview to BelTA.
Kurginyan explained that it is the Soviet period of history that unites the former republics of the Soviet Union due to their memory of the greatness they used to have. The political scientist noted that Russia had never been a superpower in the full meaning of this word before the Soviet period.
“It [Russia] reached Berlin and it made a global breakthrough only in its Soviet incarnation, which does not diminish the previous ones at all. All of them were great. But in its Soviet incarnation, it made a special breakthrough,” Kurginyan noted. “For the first time, it transformed from a catching-up power to a leading power of the technical progress: Sputnik, Gagarin etc.”
The greatest fear of the collective West is that the currently separated states, the former Soviet republics, might start gathering again.
“There is certain greatness, and there is fear that it is remembered. That it continues to be remembered. And then a restoration is possible. There is nothing more terrible for the collective West, for our enemies, than this process,” the leader of Essence of Time believes.
According to Kurginyan, even if China doubles its GDP, it will be not as terrible for the West as a potential restoration on the former territory of the USSR. This is why the Soviet period of history is subject to such a demonization, the political scientist believes.
“If for us this is a restoration, while they [the collective West] need exacerbation of the disease, then we are fighting for one thing and they are fighting for the opposite thing. This is what it is all about,” Kurginyan concluded.
