Today, Russia and the world celebrate International Workers’ Day. It is being celebrated in very different ways – somewhere uncertainly and ambiguously, somewhere with hope and expectation, and somewhere persistently fighting – including for the right to celebrate International Workers’ Day. Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was celebrated as Workers’ Day. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, since 1992, it is celebrated in Russia as “Spring and Labor Day.”
Russian cities are now decorated with red flags. Somewhere, for example, in Saint Petersburg (Leningrad) and Moscow, there are already decorations and exhibits for the upcoming May 9. The link between these two holidays is still being felt.
This is how Smolensk is gradually preparing for May 9.
A very large May Day demonstration and rally were held in Orel, with 12,500 people gathered, according to official data.
Mayor Yuri Parakhin, Governor Andrey Klychkov, representatives of political parties and participating organizations spoke at the rally.
People in Tambov gathered for a rally on May 1 with slogans “Solidarity is our strength!”, “Peace! Labor! May!”.
The dam across the Yachenskoye Reservoir in Kaluga is full of red flags.
Decorations dedicated to May 9 have already appeared on Pobeda Square in Kaluga.
Rostov-on-Don welcomed May Day with a rally in front of the House of Trade Unions.
Spring has already come in South Ossetia. This is how the main cultural, political, economic and industrial center – the city of Tskhinvali – looks on May 1.
Sevastopol greeted May 1 with a sunny, warm day.
The head of the DPR Denis Pushilin had previously announced that a difficult decision had to be made, “We will hold the Victory Parade after our complete victory and the DPR’s accession to constitutional borders. He added that mass gatherings of people in the street are not safe due to the actions of the Ukrainian army.”
The head of the DPR expressed his conviction that the Ukrainian army will not miss such an opportunity, and if a large number of people come out into the street, they can not just fire on them. The enemy “will definitely fire if he has such an opportunity. Still, a city at war marks the holiday in its own way – reservedly, steadfast and solemnly.”
In the LPR in Popasnaya, there are fortified areas with reinforced concrete shelters all over the village. They are often located near civilian infrastructure.
The time has come, tulips are in bloom in the town of Popasnaya. Spring has come to the town. But it is not quiet here today. The Ukrainian army turned the town itself into a powerful fortification. Today, the town is surrounded by minefields. The city is defended by one of the most combat-ready units of the Ukrainian army, the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade. The Russian coalition is gradually moving deeper into Popasnaya, evacuating the population.
9th of May is to come. Cities are waiting.
