Germany believes that imposing an embargo on oil from Russia is a politically cool gesture. The German Greens are especially vocal about it.
However, it is already clear to everyone that this cool gesture will be a harsh blow to all sectors of the economy of Germany itself.
A British journalist is already talking about it openly (probably rubbing his hands together with joy – or Britain doesn’t want this? Well, well, well!):
“When you don’t have fuel, when you don’t have gas, everything is ruined. It’s not just like ‘oh, I cannot fill up my gas tank, my car, no, no. Everything depends on fuel: agriculture, industry, services sector,” the British journalist Richard Medhurst explained to the confused Germans.
Poland can be presented to the Germans as an example. One may say, “You see, Russia cut off Poland’s gas supply and nothing, Poland with its head held high continues to live on.” And you don’t have to tell them that it lives by using reverse supplies of Russian gas from Germany. Who needs such details?
Another big topic in Germany in recent days has been the issue of supplies of heavy weapons to Ukraine. The German media and politicians exerted immense pressure on Chancellor Olaf Scholz for his unwillingness to get to the forefront of the confrontation between the West and Russia and finally got their way.
No matter how stubborn Scholz was, they still forced Germany to decide to supply heavy weapons to Russia. The question was put to a vote in the Bundestag, and it voted that the Bundeswehr tanks would go to Kiev.
But then a few piquant details emerged. Germany promised to supply Gepards, written off 10 years ago, to Ukraine. But then Ukrainian Ambassador Andrey Melnik got worried. It turned out that he had been asking for these “Gepards” for a long time and Germany kept explaining that there was no ammunition for them, so it was useless to supply them.
Germany had another idea, again, not to be at the forefront, to make an agreement with Slovakia. It would supply old Soviet tanks to Ukraine, and Germany would supply Slovakia with tanks from the Bundeswehr.
But here, too, one little “but” suddenly emerged. The Minister of Defense of Germany Christina Lambrecht unexpectedly declared at the Bundestag session that out of 350 Puma tanks, which the Bundeswehr has on its list, only 150 are in service. The situation with the Tiger attack helicopter is no different – only 9 out of 51 machines can take off.
Berlin is overburdened with an influx of refugees, there is nowhere to accommodate them, and volunteers drive them from shelter to shelter, but are unable to settle them permanently. The conflicts between Ukrainians and natives of Russia are being regularly reported – the Criminal Police Office (BKA) has counted 1,700 crimes of this kind.
More and more Nazis are crawling out into the light of day and claiming that their time is near. German authorities, watching German neo-Nazis provide material assistance to the Azov battalion (organization banned in the Russian Federation), pretend that nothing is happening.
The ultra-rightists in the Bundestag are less insane. Realizing that the abnormality is approaching, they proposed resuscitating Nord Stream 2, in exchange for Russia again accepting euros in payment for gas. There are not enough rubles in Germany.
Germany even tried to pay for the gas supplied in April using the ruble account of Gazprom Germania GmbH, a subsidiary of Gazprom that was arrested.
However, Gazprom was not fooled and refused to take the money stolen from its subsidiary as payment for the gas.
Meanwhile, Ozdemir, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Germany, from the Alliance 90/The Greens, offered to handle the crisis in a different way. While cannabis has not yet been legalized – and this is Ozdemir’s favorite subject – the Minister of Agriculture once again recommended citizens to limit their consumption of meat products and not to throw out leftovers.
Joachim Gauck, Germany’s former president, put forth a similar message. He urged Germans not to be cowardly and refuse all energy supplies from Russia. Gauck believes that Germans can утвгку in order to help Ukraine.
It will not be such a terrible hardship for the Germans. He himself has lived through the hardships of post-war life and knows that it does not always kill you.
