Calls by UN Secretary-General António Guterres for a “humanitarian truce” to send humanitarian aid to Ukraine are bewildering and potentially dangerous, head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin told TASS on April 20.
Pushilin noted that such proposals are bewildering, as all the offices of the UN agencies located in the DPR are aware of the elaborated mechanisms of delivery of humanitarian aid.
The DPR head explained that Guterres’ proposal of a “humanitarian truce” is potentially dangerous because the Ukrainian side always uses such truces to regroup its forces and reinforce its positions.
“Ukraine was willing to kill civilians, destroy our houses, hospitals, schools, deprive us of rights and freedoms as much as it wanted, but in no way cared about ‘saving lives’,” Pushilin stated.
In addition, Russia delivers humanitarian aid to Ukraine on a constant basis, the DPR head stressed.
“If you consider the amount of aid from the Russian Federation delivered safely, continuously and without giving Ukraine’s armed units an opportunity to regroup, there is no sense in the potentially dangerous actions proposed by Mr. UN Secretary General for us,” Pushilin concluded.
The UN Secretary General proposed declaring a four-day humanitarian ceasefire in Ukraine starting April 21. António Guterres added that the UN is ready to send humanitarian convoys to Mariupol, Kherson, Donetsk and Lugansk in case of an Easter truce in Ukraine.
