Greek parties of the “NATO arc” applauded Ukrainian neo-Nazis in the Greek parliament because NATO instructions and commitments demanded this, the press service of the Greek Communist Party said on 7 April after the scandal with a video address by a fighter of the Azov battalion (organization banned in Russia), the Greek newspaper Efsyn.
The Greek parliament showed at the plenary session an address by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky who, in his turn, included in his video an address by two Ukrainian fighters of Greek origin, one of whom introduced himself as a member of the Azov battalion (organization banned in the Russian Federation).
According to the Communist Party of Greece press service, “today the shame was ashamed in the parliament” when, after Zelensky’s speech, the “NATO arc” party applauded a Nazi from the Azov battalion (organization banned in the Russian Federation). The Communist Party stated that the applause took place because NATO instructions and commitments required this. The Communist Party of Greece stressed that the incident fully confirmed its position in this situation.
Members of the Communist Party, as well as the conservative Greek Solution party, did not come to this parliamentary session at all.
Kyriakos Velopoulos, chairman of the Greek Solution party, stated that “the legalization of the Nazis is an indelible disgrace for the Greek Parliament”. He stressed that Greece’s three largest parties, New Democracy, SYRIZA and the Movement for Change, allowed the cradle of democracy to be turned into a protector of Nazi atrocities, and this happened on the black anniversary of the Nazi invasion of Greece.
Recall that Hitler’s troops invaded Greece on April 6, 1941.
Zelenski’s video address to the Greek parliament was met with applause. In response to criticism from some SYRIZA representatives, Greek government spokesman Giannis Oikonomou said that the inclusion of the militant’s speech in the video address was a mistake, that should not be used, and demanded that parliament choose between supporting the Ukrainian side that he approves of and the Russian side that he condemns.
