Ukraine regularly fires Tochka-U ballistic missiles at peaceful districts of Melitopol, which is controlled by the Russian Armed Forces, said Yevgeniy Balitsky, a member of the Ukrainian Zaporozhzhye Regional Council, the Vzglyad newspaper reported on March 19.
According to the deputy, the city has been under constant rocket fire from the Ukrainian side since the city was abandoned by the Ukrainian military. Every day, from one to three rockets are being fired at the city.
“I can’t help but share the general impression of what is happening. Ukraine is now firing at Melitopol, firing using this “Tochka-U” unit – and not at the airfield, not at military units, which we don’t have… And I have a question – why are you firing at us? To whom and what do you want to prove? Do you want to bring us to our knees, or do you want to make us love Ukraine even more?” Balitsky stated.
According to him, Ukraine fired three Tochka-U missiles at the city, two of them with cluster warheads. All of the missiles were shot down by Russian air defense systems. Two of the missiles fell in a safe zone, while one, falling on residential neighborhoods, damaged a gas pipeline and houses around it.
“A Ukrainian Tochka-U missile was flying toward us, and the Russians shot it down. So who should we be grateful to for our lives? I am not calling for anything, just asking questions,” said the deputy.
Balitsky is responsible for coordinating the work of local authorities and Russian law enforcement agencies. According to him, he has already been included in the database of the notorious Ukrainian radical website Peacemaker and “declared almost an enemy”.
Russia has been conducting a military special operation in Donbass since February 24 to assist the DPR and LPR, as well as to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine. On February 26, Russian military forces took control of Melitopol. There was no fighting or destruction in the city, and peaceful life has now been fully restored, with Russian humanitarian aid being delivered to the city daily.
