Expert: NATO has been ready to use Ukraine's military infrastructure

14.03.2022, Moscow.

Delaying the start of a special military operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine would lead to an expansion of NATO’s presence in Ukraine, military expert and editor of the magazine Arsenal of the Fatherland Aleksey Leonkov said in an interview with Ukraina.ru.

Leonkov said that judging from the development of the Russian military special operation, the Russian Armed Forces are delivering the first blows against “that military infrastructure that could have contributed to the long resistance of the grouping in the east, therefore the complexes that provided air defense, warehouses with fuel and ammunition, as well as airfield networks were destroyed.”

According to the expert, NATO countries have put much effort in recent years to create a powerful military infrastructure in Ukraine. He said that “there are many military infrastructure facilities in Ukraine and NATO countries didn’t invest money in it with good reason.”

According to Leonkov, there is no doubt that “if there had not been this operation and they had managed to mope Donetsk and Lugansk, all these facilities would have become NATO infrastructure.”

He also said that judging from the development of the Russian military special operation one can say that it is “important for Russia to save the lives of its soldiers and to save the lives of Ukrainian citizens who, unfortunately, were held hostage by those who were supposed to protect them.”

The Lvov regional military administration confirmed earlier that the Russian Air Force carried out the strikes against the Yavorov military training ground, which has the official name “International Center for Peacekeeping and Security.” This ground was the main place where foreign instructors in Ukraine trained fighters of the Ukrainian army and nationalist formations. According to preliminary reports, the strike resulted in the deaths of 35 people, presumably foreign mercenaries. 134 people were hospitalized. The Russian Defense Ministry reported earlier that up to 180 foreign mercenaries were killed and a large supply of foreign weapons was destroyed.
