The West is trying to implement a strategy of tension in Ukraine in order to restrain the Russian economy as much as possible, political scientist and senior lecturer of the law department of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Government Igor Semenovsky said in a to Rossa Primavera News Agency on January 30.
“The longer this period of uncertainty lasts, the more opportunities the West will have to restrain the Russian economy and to continue exerting pressure on Russia as a whole, in the general political context. Many things are involved: construction projects, Nord Stream-2, and in general the economic cooperation between Russia and Europe,” the expert explained his understanding of the strategy of the UK and other Western countries.
He stressed that in such a situation, military assistance to Ukraine would be limited to a certain extent, while other types of assistance could be much more extensive.
“It would certainly not be the policy of the Anglo-Saxons if they send some military personnel to support the country! There will be nothing of this kind here. One can expect political pressure, information pressure, support of Ukraine with arms, and maybe sending instructors at most. But the main goal is to use Ukraine against the Russian Federation,” said the political scientist, hinting that the military use of Ukraine will be much less effective than a strategy of tension with its help.
“In principle, the longer Britain can support Ukraine, the more the West benefits,” Semenovsky concluded.
On January 29, it became known that the US and British air forces had made 15 flights to Ukraine since the middle of the month. All flights were performed by heavy military transport aircraft C-17A Globemaster III, as well as transport aircraft An-124 of the Ukrainian Air Force.
On February 1, it became known that the UK is not the only country that imposes sanctions against Russia. The new package of sanctions was announced by US White House press secretary Jennifer Psaki.
