Kurginyan explains emergence of Donbass recognition proposal

29.01.2022, Moscow.

The faction of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) in the Russian State Duma would not put forward a proposal to recognize the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LPR and DPR) without focusing on the opinion of the leader of state. Philosopher, political scientist, and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said this in The Meaning of the Game program published on the movement’s YouTube channel.

“There is only one person in the Russian Federation that handles the strategic problems of war and peace, the management of tensions between countries, for example, between Ukraine and Russia. It is Russian President and Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin,” Kurginyan said.

The CPRF faction in the Russian State Duma cannot be independent on such issues, the political scientist is sure. Kurginyan stressed, “It is not an independent actor of the political life in Russia, it is not in the majority in the Duma, it cannot have an independent strategy; no one can have an independent strategy now, except for Putin.”

The relative support of the party’s proposal by the State Duma is another fact in favor of the thesis of the consistency of this initiative, the expert pointed out. “There can be no other understanding of this scenario,” he noted.

Kurginyan said that the alternative version, according to which the proposal is a personal initiative of CPRF leader Gennady Zyuganov, which for some reason was supported by the faction in the State Duma, does not stand up to criticism.

According to Kurginyan, the proposal to recognize the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics is connected to Russian demands that the United States provide our country with legally binding guarantees that NATO will not expand eastward.

In general, the latest episode of Sergey Kurginyan’s broadcast, The Meaning of the Game, is devoted to the split of the Russian elite against the background of the provocation of the conflict in Ukraine by the United States and NATO.

On January 9, Russian State Duma deputy Kazbek Taysev of the Communist Party faction said that the draft resolution on the recognition of the republics of Donbass had been prepared in a similar way to the resolutions on the recognition of Abkhazia and North Ossetia.

On January 24, a proposal to ask the Russian president to recognize the republics was discussed at the Duma Council.
