In order to stabilize the situation in Kazakhstan, Tokayev needs to be a political being, said philosopher, political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on January 8 in the new broadcast of The Meaning of the Game program on the movement’s YouTube channel about the events in Kazakhstan.
“What matters most is not whether you ask the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to come to the rescue or not; above all, you have to be a political being. In order to be such a figure, in these type of situations, one must speak furiously on television three times a day; make tough decisions in the interest of the people; punish those among the elites who cause the greatest popular indignation – and, in order to accomplish it, you need to have your own elites, your own clan, your own loyalists, etc; always be surrounded by the people, be in the crowd, rather than hide from it; defining your new course of actions and so on,” explained the expert.
As an example, the political scientist used Aleksandr Lukashenko, the president of Belarus, who was confused at first during the Maidan protests in 2020, but did everything necessary to stabilize the situation later. At the same time, Viktor Yanukovych, the former head of Ukraine, acted differently in 2013-2014.
Sergey Kurginyan has made his assessments of those who called for the use of repressions in Kazakhstan: according to the political scientist, the government system in the country is not adapted for such measures, so the dialogue is necessary.
Also, he reminded that Central Asia is a stage for a confrontation between the US and China.
“The People’s Republic of China needs Central Asia, it’s not going to let it slip out of its grasp. The US will not give up Central Asia to the People’s Republic of China. So, conflicts are inevitable. They are multiple, they are huge, and they will converge at a certain focus point called the Russian Federation,” concluded Kurginyan.
