Russian Foreign Ministry calls “Summit for Democracy” a “summit for world domination”

10.12.2021, Moscow.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov called “Summit for Democracy” hosted by the USA a summit for world domination during a briefing for journalists on December 10.

“The event, although called ‘Summit for Democracy,’ has very little to do with democracy,” Ryabkov said. He added that the name of the summit is nothing more than a “hashtag” or “call.”

The diplomat stressed that the summit was organized not to discuss democracy and human rights, but to work on issues relating to geopolitics and issues of world domination by the USA and its allies. According to Ryabkov, if the United States had called the event “Summit for World Dominance,” “it would have been both fairer and more correct.”

In addition, the Russian deputy foreign minister noted at the briefing that the complicated situation in US-Russian relations is not due to Russia’s fault either. He stressed that the continued imposition of sanctions against Russia and unsubstantiated accusations are “a source of concern” and “create a very toxic atmosphere.”

Earlier, spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry Wang Wenbin said on December 8, that the “Summit for Democracy” organized by the United States did not find support and was met with widespread censure from the international community. He also reported that Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said the selective convening of the summit, which is ostensibly devoted to democracy, is a sign that the United States is unable to counter the disapproval of its foreign policy by the global community.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, African scholars and media noted that inviting less than one-third of Africa to the “Summit for Democracy” casts doubt on the true intentions of the United States.
