Provocations of any kind to resolve the situation in Donbass by force will be stopped, Chief of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff Valeriy Gerasimov said at a briefing with military attachés of foreign countries on December 9.
Gerasimov pointed out the aggravation of the situation in eastern Ukraine. Deliveries of helicopters, aircraft and UAVs to Kiev are pushing the Ukrainian authorities to take drastic and dangerous steps.
Gerasimov stressed that Ukraine was currently not complying with the Minsk agreements. The Ukrainian army announced the start of the use of US advanced Javelin anti-tank systems. In addition, the Ukrainian army began using Turkish reconnaissance and attack UAVs.
Gerasimov denied that Russia was preparing an invasion of Ukraine. He said that the activities of the Russian Armed Forces, which are carried out on the territory of Russia, do not require notification to anyone.
On December 7, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during his conversation with US leader Joe Biden that NATO was trying to explore Ukrainian territory and build up its military potential near Russia’s borders.
The main topic of the conversation between the US and Russian leaders was the situation in Ukraine and the lack of progress in the implementation of the 2015 Minsk agreements, which are a non-alternative basis for a peaceful settlement.
After talks with Putin, Biden said that NATO’s principle of collective defense does not apply to Ukraine. At the same time, he stressed that in case of aggressive actions against Kiev, severe economic sanctions will be introduced against Russia.
On December 9, the Associated Press news agency, citing sources in US government circles, reported that Washington could begin to put pressure on Kiev and encourage it to make concessions on the issue of autonomy of the DPR and LPR.
On December 9, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that Kiev was ready to make concessions in relations with Moscow if the Russian side was ready to reciprocate.
