Opinion: The West invents an excuse to rally against Russia

22.11.2021, Moscow.

Statements about Russia’s allegedly upcoming invasion of Ukraine are an artificial pretext for the collective West to rally against Russia, Igor Semenovskiy, a lawmaker and political scientist, doctor in law and senior lecturer of the law department of the Financial University under the Russian government, said to Rossa Primavera News Agency on November 21.

Semenovskiy also commented on the information about Moscow’s allegedly planned military invasion into Ukraine which the CIA warned the US administration about on November 19 and urged all “democratic countries” to prepare for.

The expert noted that such statements are not backed up by anything other than the statements of high-ranking officials of the US administration.

On the other hand, the political scientist says, the situation is so intense that diplomats aren’t able to resolve this issue.

The expert reminded about the meeting in the “Normandy format” (Ukraine, Russia, Germany, France – Rossa Primavera News Agency’s note) disrupted by the West. The Russian Foreign Ministry published preliminary correspondence of Paris, Berlin, and Moscow on this meeting “so that no one would have questions” to Russia, which allegedly does not find diplomatic ways.

On the other hand, the expert noted, it is possible that the tension is caused by the planned meeting of Russian and US presidents in the near future, before which the sides, especially the Western side, prefer to “flex their muscles” in order to win additional “trump cards” for the summit meeting.

The expert also suggested that this kind of aggravation is also caused by the imposition of the transfer of further contradictions between Ukraine and Russia from the “Normandy Four” format to the bilateral format “US, Russia.”

The expert noted that Russia would not benefit from an excessively harsh response to such outbursts, because if the Western sanctions are extended from individuals to entire economic sectors, such as the development of the Arctic, it would be a very tangible blow to the Russian economy, which one would obviously not want to allow.
