Russian Foreign Ministry refuses to recognize the legitimacy of "fugitive Belarusian opposition activists"

22.07.2021, Moscow.

Russia will not contribute to the legitimization of fugitive Belarusian opposition activists, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova at a briefing on July 22.

“We have no desire to contribute to the legitimization of fugitive Belarusian opposition activists. Domestic processes in Belarus are intra-Belarusian processes,” Zakharova noted.

According to her, the reluctance of the Belarusian emigrants, including Tikhanovskya, to develop a constructive agenda for overcoming the crisis in the country is especially regrettable. In particular, they remained indifferent to the steps of Minsk on constitutional reform, certainly important for the fate of the state.

In her opinion, instead of a positive agenda, the opposition does everything to destabilize the situation in the country and increase damage to its economy.

“Just look at the appeals to the Western community to impose sanctions against Belarus. We believe that those who call for sanctions against their own country and people have no right to a political future,” stressed Zakharova.

According to the representative of the Foreign Ministry, the lack of independence of the Belarusian opposition is already evident. Foreign forces completely organize the life of emigrants, their activities, funding and political activity.

“In this case, we should talk about those forces that have recruited profitable figures from among the citizens of Belarus to carry out their own agenda,” concluded Zakharova.

Recall that the former editor-in-chief of the opposition telegram channel NEXTA, Roman Protasevich, told in an interview about the dependent position and life of the Belarusian opposition abroad.
