Terrorist groups violated the ceasefire agreement in the Idlib zone in Syria 41 times in 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry’s press service informed on July 2.
“41 instances of opening fire were recorded,” the message reads. Of these, armed militant groups violated the ceasefire 15 times in Idlib province, 16 times in Latakia province, 7 times in Aleppo, and 3 times in Hama province.
Under the agreement between Russia and Turkey dated March 5, 2020, ceasefire was established in the Idlib de-escalation zone in Syria. According to the agreement, Turkey is obliged to monitor the observance of the ceasefire by the terrorist groups.
The Idlib de-escalation zone is the last enclave of Islamists on the territory of Syria. Turkey and Ankara-backed terrorist groups exercise authority there.
The largest Turkish-backed group in Idlib is Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (organization banned in Russia). The militant group consists of 18,000 fighters.
