Russian senator proposes to measure the content of “freedom molecules” in US gas

The US Secretary of Energy forgot to notify the public about the concentration of “freedom molecules” in US natural gas, Russian Senator Aleksey Pushkov wrote on May 28 on his Telegram channel.

The senator commented on the words of US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, who told the US House Committee on Science, Space and Technology that Russia exports the dirtiest natural gas on the planet.

“This lady, pretending to be an expert, forgot to mention that US gas arriving in Europe, unlike Russian gas, also consists of ‘freedom molecules.’ Otherwise, there’s something missing in her assessment as US Secretary of Energy. But I’m sure she thinks so. She just forgot to say it,” Pushkov wrote ironically.

The experts point out that the Russian gas supplied to Europe via pipelines is much cheaper for the Europeans than the US liquefied natural gas. According to Gazprom, methane emissions throughout Gazprom’s production chain (production – transportation – underground storage) are close to zero. Whereas liquefied natural gas in the US is produced by one of the dirtiest methods in the industry – hydraulic fracturing – and is transported by tankers across the ocean, which significantly increases total greenhouse gas emissions.
