Vladimir Putin: Ukraine is gradually being turned into the antipode to Russia

14.05.2021, Moscow.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on May 14 at a meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council of Russia that Ukraine is gradually being turned into an anti-Russia.

“To all appearances, and this is very sad, Ukraine is gradually being turned into some kind of antipode to Russia, some kind of anti-Russia, some kind of territory, from which we will constantly, by all appearances, receive news that requires special attention from our side in terms of security of the Russian Federation,” Putin said.

Putin also commented on recent events in Ukraine:

“Now, as you know, there is an obvious sweeping purge of the politicians there. Nationwide media outlets are being shut down. But our Western partners do not react to this in any way, if not to say support decisions of this kind,” Putin said.

In early February 2021, three opposition TV channels were banned in Ukraine simultaneously, and a little later another newly created channel was banned. At the same time, Ukraine started repressions against the leader and members of the opposition parliamentary party Opposition Platform — For Life.

A criminal case was opened against the head of Opposition Platform — For Life Viktor Medvedchuk on charges of treason and other alleged crimes. As a result of the first court session that took place on 13 May, the Member of the Ukrainian Parliament Viktor Medvedchuk was placed under house arrest for 24 hours.
