Russian Senator explains how France and Germany could help Donbass

06.04.2021, Moscow.

Experience shows that French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will not bring the Ukrainian leadership to their senses, although it would be useful – both for Ukraine and Europe, Russian Senator Aleksey Pushkov wrote on April 6 on his Telegram channel.

This is how Pushkov commented on the statement of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who urged France and Germany to bring the Ukrainian authorities to their senses.

The senator noted that even if Macron and Merkel wanted to influence Kiev’s policy with regard to Donbass, it would not be so effective, as the Ukrainian authorities align their actions with Washington on this matter.

On the other hand, according to the member of the Russian Federation Council, if Paris and Berlin had made financial assistance to Ukraine from the EU contingent on Kiev’s implementation of the Minsk agreements, it “could have been the only effective means of influencing Kiev’s behavior and the Ukrainian ‘war party.”

“But such measures against Ukraine that violates everything are taboo. And admonitions and appeals, even if formally voiced, will not work. Especially in conditions when NATO has already in advance put the responsibility for the further development of events on Russia,” Pushkov explained.
