Putin: Christianity and communism have common values

07.10.2020, Moscow.

Left-wing values like equality and fraternity are close to Christian ideas, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin said, the Russia 24 TV channel reported on October 7.

According to Putin, for 18 years he was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU), where he was an ordinary but committed member. Putin still finds attractive many of the communist values.

“I still like many of these left-wing values. Equality, fraternity ― is there anything bad in them? Indeed, this is close to Christianity,” Putin said.

He added that such ideas are difficult to implement in practice, which does not make them less attractive.

According to many experts, politicians, and clergymen, Christianity and communism have common roots. Partial merging of these two concepts also took place in the Latin American liberation theology.
