Sergey Lavrov: No other country benefits from the US “soft power”

17.09.2020, Moscow.

The United States use “soft power” to change the political regime in other countries, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on September 17 in an interview with RTVi.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the US “soft power” is aimed not at propaganda of language and culture but at “indoctrination and brainwashing” to change the mood of political class. He recalled the repeated statements of former US President Barack Obama that “America is an exceptional nation, destined to “bring peace and democracy to all other countries.”

According to Lavrov, the US has switched to the level of propaganda with “stilted phrases” with which senior US officials dictate their instructions to other countries, none of which has benefit as a result. As an example of consequences of “victories of US democracy, Sergey Lavrov cited some countries of the former USSR, Iraq, Libya and also Syria where the US “failed”.

During his recent official visit to the Czech Republic, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called on the authorities of a sovereign state to abandon cooperation with Russia in the field of nuclear energy in favor of American companies. Pompeo voiced similar statements against Russia and China during his tour in the Middle East and North Africa.
