The "Autonomous Zone" in Seattle is led by an alliance of anarchists, liberals and LGBT

13.06.2020, Seattle.

The self-proclaimed “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone”, which has taken over an area of about six blocks in the city of Seattle, Washington lacks centralized leadership, said Sam Shipman, a left-wing activist from Seattle in an interview to a Rossa Primavera News Agency correspondent on June 12.

“About a third of them are anarchists. The rest are liberals from the Black Lives Matter movement and LGBT activists,” said the activist, based on the observations he made on site.

According to Shipman, the presence of traditional left-wing workers’ organizations in the “Autonomous Zone” is nearly exceedingly small. The significant role that anarchists play in the occupied zone is because the Capitol Hill district has always been a center of the anarchist movement in the city and the region.

On June 8, a group of protesters captured a police station and about six city blocks in Seattle, declaring a ” cop-free Autonomous Zone”. US President Donald Trump  accused local authorities of total inaction and threatened to send federal troops to Seattle to regain control of the city.
