The leader of the Venezuelan opposition Juan Guaidó addressed foreign states with a request for a military invasion of Venezuela, the Minister of Communication and Information Jorge Rodríguez said on May 18. The minister’s speech was broadcasted on the national TV.
“Juan Guaidó promotes the idea of an armed invasion of Venezuela, and he asks hostile foreign governments to interfere (with Venezuela’s domestic affairs ― Rossa Primavera News Agency),” Rodríguez said.
The minister added that Guaidó entered into an alliance with criminals and drug traffickers from Colombia and Venezuela in order to reach his goals of seizure of power in the country.
In early 2019, Guaidó declared himself acting president of Venezuela. He found support from the USA, the EU countries, and the Lima Group countries.
The President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro said that these Guaidó’s actions were a coup d’etat attempt supported by the international community. Russia, China, Iran, Turkey, Cuba, and other countries supported his position.
