Joseph Stalin never met Adolf Hitler, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with TASS on March 10.
Discussing the role of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact in the beginning of World War II, Putin said that this issue cannot be discussed outside of the historical context, in particular, without considering the agreements between pre-war Germany and other European states. The President noted that Stalin “never marred himself with direct contacts with Hitler” unlike his European colleagues. Putin said that the leaders of Great Britain, France, and Poland met with Hitler personally.
The President also recalled that prior to World War II, European leaders not only had met with Hitler, but they also had agreed to change the borders in Europe. In particular, Poland participated in the criminal division of Czechoslovakia.
