Events dedicated to the anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War are extremely necessary to prevent falsification of history, said the Russian Embassy adviser Pavel Kurochkin at a round table discussion in Yerevan on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Sputnik Armenia reports on March 5.
In a conversation with the agency’s correspondent Kurochkin said, “at the present stage it is important to tell the truth, the truth about the Great Patriotic War. Because today we are faced with attempts to distort, rewrite history, and falsify it by a number of forces.”
In his opinion, attempts are being made to rewrite history and introduce into the people’s minds the statement that both the USSR and Nazi Germany bear the same responsibility for crimes in the Great Patriotic War.
Therefore, he emphasized the role and importance of the events held when it is possible to hold them with the participation of Great Patriotic War veterans, as they provide an opportunity to tell the young generation the truth about the events of 1941-1945.
As Kurochkin said, “this is important. Fortunately, the younger generation does not succumb to provocation and it clearly understands the role and significance of that period.”
The Embassy together with the Russian Center of Science and Culture plan a wide range of events dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. It includes a reception at the embassy, meetings with veterans, conferences, round table discussions, tidying up local graves, memorials, awarding anniversary medals to veterans.
