In three months the interim government of Bolivia has destroyed all the social gains that had been previously achieved, former Bolivian President Evo Morales said, HispanTV reports on February 17.
“Everything that we had built together with the Bolivian people during our rule has been destroyed in three months,” Morales said on his Twitter account.
In particular, the leader of the Movement for Socialism party announced the paralysis of work on projects that had already been provided for in the country’s budget, including the Nuclear Research Center, the metro line in Cochabamba, the carbomine plant, and roads.
Morales said that the situation in public health service and education “causes a lot of pain” for him. According to him, as a result of the expulsion of Cuban doctors from Bolivia, a number of departments in some hospitals have stopped receiving patients; the country’s universal health system is not functioning. In his opinion, the government intends to stop implementing social programs for the subsequent privatization of these industries.
Evo Morales was at the head of the country for 14 years. During this time, the number of people living below the poverty level had decreased from 40% to 17% according to official data. Bolivia reached its peak of economic development in 2018, when it became the fastest-growing country in Latin America. Overall, GDP growth in the country reached about 4.9% annually since 2006.
The Morales-led Movement for Socialism party is in the lead in opinion polls preceding the upcoming general elections in Bolivia.
