The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro called the repeated attempts to attack the Venezuelan systems supplying vital services to the population a new type of war, Telesur reports on April 7.
According to Maduro, the attacks against Venezuela are aimed at triggering chaos, escalating violence, and using the destabilization in the country for a coup d’etat. The president believes that the ultimate goal is to seize Venezuelan natural resources.
According to Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, reconstruction efforts are taking place at the central power plant in the eastern state of Bolivar. “Workers have no time for sleep or rest, because they are bearing responsibility for the people of Venezuela, for our children and elderly people. We must ensure that electric power is supplied to hospitals, we must give our country peace and security, and defend its sovereignty,” the vice president explained.
On April 6, Nicolás Maduro stated that a third attempt to disable the Venezuelan electric power system was carried out using cyberattacks from Chile and Colombia supported by the US government. The investigation showed that the attackers planted viruses into the computerized systems.
“Does the opposition think that they have the right to use these kinds of fascist methods in order to come to power in the country? Do they believe that they can fight the authorities with terrorism, and that people will accept this?” Maduro commented on the results of the investigation.
