Assassination attempt on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro thwarted

An assassination attempt on the president of Venezuela was thwarted, the Bolivarian Republic’s president Nicolas Maduro said himself on March 23 on air of local television.

Maduro said that Venezuelan security services have prevented the planned attack at him, which was developed under the leadership of opposition leader Juan Guaido.

At the same time, the Venezuelan president named “North American imperialism” as the instigator, and he called Guaido “the devil’s puppet”.

He also noted the success of the Prosecutor’s Office, which has made progress in the investigation of this case, and he promised to bring new arrests of terrorists.

The attempt on Nicolas Maduro’s life had previously occurred in August 2018 during his public speech. Terrorists used a drone filled with explosives. None of the top leaders of the country were wounded.

Since January 2019 Venezuela has been shaken by a political crisis. On January 23, Juan Guaido, with the support of the United States and many European countries, declared himself president of the country and since then has held numerous rallies, clashes and episodes of sabotage in Venezuela.
