Venezuela is a besieged fortress, and Russia must help it in order to escape being subject to another mechanism of “color revolution” , said Candidate of Political Sciences, Chief Research Fellow of the Center for Political Studies Andrey Pyatakov, a correspondent of the Rossa Primavera News Agency reported on February 8.
According to the expert, the outcome of the confrontation in Venezuela, which he believes can be called a besieged fortress, will strongly affect the situation in Russia.
“If the ‘Venezuelan dam’ is broken, the US will understand that it can proceed with more active and aggressive steps in Russia’s direction,” the expert believes.
This is why Russia, according to Pyatakov, should support Venezuela. “If Russia betrays Venezuela, the scenario taking place there now can be exported to Russia,” he believes.
Pyatakov characterized the Venezuelan events as an attempt of a coup d’etat supported by international actors seeking “to return Venezuela to the transnational corporations. Chávez strongly restricted their role in the economy, and many North American corporations left the country, but now the corporations want to regain their positions and come back to Venezuela, but this time on their own terms. The opposition politicians only express these corporations’ opinion.”
According to the political scientist, it is difficult to make any predictions now regarding further events, and the situation can evolve in any direction. The hottest point of the political process in Venezuela will be reached, Pyatakov believes, if Nicolás Maduro appoints special parliamentary elections, leaving violent methods of struggle as the only opposition’s option.
Many Western countries openly supported the rebellious opposition leader Juan Guaidó, recognizing him as the Venezuelan president.
At the same time, a number of countries, including Russia, Belarus, Bolivia, Iran, China, Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Syria, and Turkey support the current legitimate President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro.
