The Russian Foreign Ministry announced on February 8 that a peace settlement meeting on Syria will take place in the city of Astana between the leaders of Russia, Turkey and Iran.
According to Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is scheduled for February 14.
During the negotiations in the city of Astana, the “guarantor countries” of the peace process will discuss the coordination of armed forces “on the ground”, the provision of humanitarian assistance to the population, as well as issues of the “political process and post-conflict development” in Syria.
The US President Donald Trump declared “victory over ISIS” (organization banned in Russia) and the withdrawal of US military personnel from Syria at the end of 2018.
The main force fighting against terrorist groups in Syria will be the Syrian army, as well as the armed forces of Russia, Iran and Turkey.
