With regard to the pension reform in Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel urged “not to create panic” in an interview with the state channel ARD on August 26.
“Please do not create panic,” – Merkel reacted to the German’s Minister of Finance Olaf Schulz offer on stabilization of pensions level till 2040. The governing coalition disagrees with Schultz proposal because of too high financial costs.
Merkel also emphasized that the special pension commission will make efforts to resolve the issue. According to her opinion, it is worth waiting for the proposal of this commission before making any decisions.
Earlier, on August 24, the Minister of Finance from the SPD Olaf Scholz made a proposal for pension reform, that assumes a significant increase of contributions and taxes.
German Minister of the Interior Horst Seehofer commented on the situation with pensions and said that he does not see any serious problems. According to Seehofer, “pension funds are full like never before.”
