Mass media: UAE controls the network of prisons in Yemen where inmates are tortured

The UAE is in control of a secret network of the prisons in the southern Yemen where tortures are being exercised, Associated Press agency stated on Thursday, June 22, citing ex-inmates, human rights activists, and officials in Yemen.

According to the agency, the Pentagon informed that the USA military took part in interrogations of prisoners, however, refused to recognize their participation in tortures.

Experts said that the USA is the key ally of the UAE and could have infringed the International Convention against Torture by being complicit in tortures committed by a third party.

The war in Yemen continues since 2014. Houthis [the Pro-Iranian Shiite group – Rossa Primavera News Agency] on one side and government Sunni troops with the support of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council on another side are taking part in this conflict. The Houthis began to organize attacks on the border areas of Saudi Arabia after its intervention in the civil war in Yemen. The USA took the side of Pro-government forces in this conflict.
