Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: The quasi-state of Kosovo is the main source of instability in the Balkans

Haradinaj is one of the former Albanian field commanders from Kosovo (Kosovo Liberation Army), who was on the international wanted list at Belgrade’s request, and he was taken into custody on January 4, 2017. Serbia had sent a request to Interpol, accusing the Kosovar militant of war crimes, such as torture and the massacre of Serbs, Roma and Albanians loyal to Serbia during military operations in Kosovo in 1998-1999.

Haradinaj was detained in France on the border with Switzerland. He was then released a few days later and put under house arrest. Kalmar’s Court of Appeals (France) decided not to extradite Haradinaj to Belgrade, on April 27, 2017. The French court ruled that an Albanian in Serbia will be judged unfairly, as explained by the defense.

After the court proceedings in Kalmar ended, Haradinaj said that he’s expected to return to Kosovo since he is a “free man” now. While already in the city of Pristina in Kosovo, Haradinaj said that the neighboring Serbia is the main enemy of Kosovo, on April 30. He promised “to show Belgrade its place, as Croatia did”. Haradinaj called the Serbs the criminals and promised to remind them of everything they did.
