Donetsk celebrates May Day with procession of many thousands people (photos)

In Donetsk, a mass procession took place on the occasion of International Workers’ Solidarity Day, the correspondent of the Rossa Primavera News Agency reported on May 1.

The May Day demonstration in the center of the capital of the Donetsk People’s Republic gathered several thousand members of labor union organizations, activists of social movements, and ordinary citizens who came to the celebration with their families. The townspeople were carrying flags of the Donetsk People’s Republic, as well as banners with Soviet symbols and slogans “Peace! Labor! May! “,” Our strength is in unity “,” Peace will overcome war! “. People shouted “Glory to the man of labor!” and “Hurray!”. Aa solemn rally was held in Lenin Square after the procession.

May 1 was proclaimed the main holiday of the working people of the world at the Paris Congress of the Second International in July 1889. The date was chosen in memory of the workers of the city of Chicago, who defended their rights and were shot by the American police on May 1, 1886.

Earlier we reported that in Ukraine, there are proposals on the state level to ban the celebration of March 8, May 1, and May 9. The director of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance announced the drafting of such a bill.
