On the night of May 23-24 Ukrainian military shelled Staromykhaylovka village in the west of Donetsk by weapons of infantry fighting vehicle, as well as 120mm and 82mm mortars of various calibers, according to Donetsk People’s Republic Defense Ministry, Donetsk News Agency informs. Presumably, the village was shelled from the area near Krasnogorovka town.
The Defense Ministry clarified that more than 200 shells were fired over the night. “This is a record for the last few months,” a representative of the DPR Defense Ministry stressed.
During May 23rd, Ukrainian punitive forces fired almost 600 shells at the DPR front-line territories. More than a dozen of towns and villages along the contact line were shelled. On the night of May 24th, 10 houses, an Orthodox church, a kindergarten, and a hospital were damaged in the shelling of Staromikhaylovka and Aleksandrovka villages on the western outskirts of Donetsk. Two civilians were wounded.
DPR Defense Ministry filed the information on the shelling of the residential areas to the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission. According to a Donetsk News Agency reporter, who was on the spot, the OSCE monitors inspected the scene of shelling in Staromikhaylovka.
