Through the personal fundraising initiative of two German Parliament members, 200 thousand euros were sent to the children’s organizations of Gorlovka, Lugansk and Donetsk cities in Donbass, Andrej Hunko a member of the Bundestag of The Left party and a member of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly told in his interview to RIA Novosti.
“About a year ago, just shortly before Christmas, I and Wolfgang Gehrcke (a member of the Bundestag of the Left Party – ed. note) had started a small charity campaign for the children’s hospital in Gorlovka … We were amazed at the public reaction to our fundraising campaign” – Hunko said, adding that as a result of their campaign 30 thousand euros worth of humanitarian aid was delivered to Donbass in February 2015, and 140 thousand euros worth of humanitarian aid was delivered in November 2015.
According to Hunko, two trucks with medical and other supplies were sent to Donbass to the children’s hospital in Gorlovka in February, one truck was sent to the children’s hospital in Lugansk, and one truck to the hospital in Donetsk. A new humanitarian convoy arrived to Gorlovka in November, where the members of the parliament met with hospital’s administration.
“We spoke with the chief doctors of Gorlovka hospital and children’s hospital in Lugansk, and part of the funds was handed to them again. They said that with our help and support they are fully secured with medical supplies for the next three months, and they are very happy about it”, Hunko said, adding that Ukrainian authorities provide no support at all to children’s hospitals in Donbass.
