Kiev junta’s Health Ministry confirms polio outbreak in Ukraine, according to the Ministry’s public affairs office.
WHO-certified laboratory confirmed that the disease of two children in Zakarpatye region was caused by a circulated vaccine-derived virus, which is considered an outbreak of polio.
According to the public affairs office, the circulation of the virus threatens all non-vaccinated children in Ukraine. A decision has been made to create a crisis center on reacting and preventing the spread of the disease in the country.
According to the information of the Health Ministry, less than a half children have been vaccinated against polio in Ukraine. Only 49% of children were vaccinated in 2014 and only 14.1% were vaccinated in the first half of 2015.
