Eduard Basurin: Ukrainian Security Service spreads rumors of a "dirty bomb" in DPR

The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) documents which have appeared in foreign mass media, supposedly containing information regarding the development of a “dirty bomb” by the militia, are another lie of Kiev and an attempt to discredit the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, says Deputy Commander of DPR Militia Staff Eduard Basurin.

The Times newspaper has earlier today referred to certain SBU documents and claimed that the militia, together with Russian nuclear scientists, are supposedly using radioactive industrial waste from the Donetsk chemical plant bunker to develop a “dirty bomb”.

Basurin:

This is another Ukrainian lie. This is their way of showing that people who live here are terrorists. There really is such a secure bunker in Donetsk, but nobody knows for certain what is down there. Because nobody, obviously, unsealed it.

At the same time, Aleksandr Turchinov, the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, replying to a question of a journalist – is it possible for Ukraine to create a “dirty bomb” (a bomb with radioactive materials) – said that Kiev will use all available resources, including manufacture of effective weaponry, while “what kind of a weapon will it be – dirty or clean – is a separate technological question”.

Donetsk state chemical plant stopped operating a long time ago. It is situated in Kuybyshev district of Donetsk. It was shelled numerous times by Kiev junta militants, after which Kiev declared that a radiation leak is possible. However, according to DPR emergency services, the radiation situation in the city remains within normal limits.
