Robert Fico accuses Western countries of assassination attempt on his life

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico accused Western countries and organizations funded by them operating in Slovakia of making an attempt on his life, Multipolar Magazin wrote on June 10.

Fico made his first public statement since the assassination attempt in a video message on June 5. The Slovak prime minister explained that he had no hatred for the assassin and would not take any legal action.

According to the politician, the perpetrator was ultimately only a “carrier of political hatred” that was fanned by the Slovak opposition, which is supported by Western governments. Fico emphasized that he strongly rejects interference in the internal affairs of other states by “some major Western democracies” and the forcible export of “democracy” to countries that have decided to go their own way.

It is not easy for small countries such as Slovakia to sovereignly represent their positions at the international level if they do not agree with the position of the leading Western powers, the prime minister explained. Fico recalled that he had previously displeased Western powers with his rejection of the NATO war against Yugoslavia (1999) and the withdrawal of Slovak troops from Iraq (2007).

In addition, the Slovak prime minister did not allow the introduction of “mandatory quotas for illegal immigrants” and stopped military support to Ukraine. Moreover, Fico opposed Ukraine’s accession to NATO, saying it could become “the basis for a World War Three.”

Fico explained that Western countries brand politicians who oppose continuing the war in Ukraine at all costs as “Russian agents” and politically marginalize them internationally. “This is a harsh statement, but there is no longer a right to dissent in the EU,” the politician added.

The previous Slovak government, which is now in opposition, according to the prime minister, “completely subordinated itself to the interests of major countries.” It “looted” the Slovak armed forces with its military supplies to Ukraine and fundamentally reduced Slovakia’s defense capabilities.
