Speaker of the Russian State Duma thanks Nicaragua for supporting independence of Donbass

Speaker of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin thanked the Nicaraguan authorities for supporting the independence of the republics of Donbass during a speech at the National Assembly of Nicaragua on February 24.

“We are grateful to Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, who was one of the first to support Russia’s decision to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics,” Volodin said.

Volodin also said that Russian citizens are grateful to Nicaragua for supporting the reunification of Crimea with Russia and recognizing the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

As reported by Rossa Primavera News Agency, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on February 21 in response to an appeal by the leaders of the DPR and LPR to recognize the Donbass republics and conclude treaties of friendship with the republics.

The presidential decrees were ratified on February 22. On the morning of February 24, Russia launched a demilitarization operation in Ukraine in response to Kiev’s aggression against the Donbass republics.
