24.02.2022, Moscow.

NATO expansion poses a “serious threat” to the security and stability of the region, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Nour News, a publication close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), reported on February 24.

“NATO’s eastward expansion creates tension and is a serious threat to the stability and security of independent states in various fields,” Raisi said in a conversation with the Russian president already after the military operation of demilitarization and denazification began in Ukraine.

“I hope that what is happening will benefit the peoples and the entire region,” Raisi said.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry urged Iranian citizens to leave Ukraine. The Iranian embassy in Ukraine is currently working to obtain permits for evacuation flights, given that Ukrainian airspace is currently closed, ISNA added.
