What is left of the achievements of Great October Socialist Revolution? Photo report about pickets in southern Russia

08.11.2021, Moscow.

Members of the Essence of Time movement held pickets in honor of the 104th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution in a number of southern Russian cities on November 7, as Rossa Primavera News Agency informed.

Holding placards reading, “The Great October gave the people rights and opportunities! What’s left of them in recent years?”, the members of the Essence of Time movement marched to monuments dedicated to the revolution in Sevastopol and three cities in the Rostov region: Taganrog, Rostov-on-Don and Novocherkassk.

“I came out to the picket to remind everyone what the Great October gave us all. This is first of all the creation of the world’s first socialist state – the USSR, where equality and fraternity were proclaimed,” Essence of Time’s member Yekaterina Chepurnaya, who came out to the picket in Sevastopol at the monument to Vladimir Lenin, said.

“Now all the achievements of October, such as generally accessible education, health care, development of science and culture and much more, became even more important in the light of the events that have been observed in our country over the past few years. Just look at the pension reform. The coronavirus pandemic, with all its costs in the form of restrictive measures, QR codes, and forced vaccinations, has made the situation even worse. In fact, today, with our tacit consent, they are taking away from us what the Bolsheviks gave their lives for,” Chepurnaya explained her reasons for going on the picket.

In Taganrog, the picket was also held at the Lenin monument. The action attracted the attention of law enforcement officers – a police patrol talked to the activist. The policemen asked whether it was a solitary picket and whether a similar action was held at this time anywhere else in the city.

“I want to remind about this solemn occasion, this great date especially to the younger generation whose representatives, unfortunately, hardly know anything about what great event took place 104 years ago and what great significance it has for all of us, especially now, when people’s rights are blatantly trampled under the pretext of saving their lives,” Essence of Time’s member Yury Lunev explained the reason for the picket.

In Rostov-on-Don, the picket was also held at the Lenin monument in the city center. “The revolution gave Russia and all people the dream of a new man and a new life. This dream is especially relevant nowadays and we should remember it and try to bring it to life,” Essence of Time’s member Aleksandr Ditskov said.

In Novocherkassk, the action took place at the monument to the heroes of the Civil War, the Cossacks Fyodor Podtyolkov and Mikhail Krivoshlykov. “All the social rights and benefits that are now taken for granted were literally paid for with the blood of the Bolsheviks, revolutionaries, and those who joined them. As soon as the paths to the heroes of the revolution and civil war began to overgrow, the social gains, one by one, began to disappear,” Essence of Time’s member Dmitry Zagorodnyuk said.
