Lavrov: Stalin is declared a villain in order to rewrite the results of the war

30.08.2021, Volgograd.

Attempts to portray Soviet leader Joseph Stalin as the main villain of his era are part of the attack on the outcome of World War II, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a meeting with veterans of the Great Patriotic War in Volgograd on August 30.

Lavrov emphasized that attacks on Russia’s historical past are carried out from outside, both to rewrite history and to weaken Russia politically. He recalled that Joseph Stalin led all processes in the country.

“I absolutely agree that history cannot be touched. By the way, attacks on Stalin as the main villain, lumping together everything he did in the pre-war time, in the time after the war – this is also part of the attack on our past, on the outcome of World War II,” the minister said.

Lavrov arrived in the hero-city of Volgograd (from 1925 to 1961 – Stalingrad) to participate in the presentation of eleven standards of the Great Patriotic War to the Battle of Stalingrad panorama museum.

The Minister said that the efforts of Volgograd region in preservation and strengthening of historical memory are very important for Russia. He reminded that the Russia’s foreign policy has always been “based on dignity, truth and justice.”
