Amid London’s escalation of the international situation, the most important issue for Russia is whether Ukraine will be admitted to NATO, political analyst and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on July 1 on the Topic program on the Donetsk Union TV channel.
The political analyst commented on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statement during a conference that he was not much concerned about the incident when the British destroyer HMS Defender entered Russian territorial waters. Kurginyan is confident that Moscow’s reaction to the threat to admit Ukraine to NATO will be different.
“As soon as Russia becomes convinced that this insane idea [Ukraine’s accession to NATO – Rossa Primavera News Agency editorial note] is taking on some real shape, Russia, I think, will certainly react very strongly,” the movement’s leader said.
On June 23, the British destroyer HMS Defender violated the Russian state border in the Black Sea near Cape Fiolent. This incident was resolved: having warned several times about the use of weapons, the Russian Border Guard Service was forced to fire warning shots and then drop bombs from Su-24M aircraft along the course of the vessel.
