The United States is encouraging a significant part of the Syrian Kurds to secession, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on July 2 during a press conference in Moscow.
“There is a significant part of the Syrian Kurds, united in certain structures, which the Americans clearly encourage to separatism,” Lavrov said. Such games are very dangerous and are a provocation, the minister added.
The Russian Foreign Minister made his statement at a press conference after talks with Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. The meeting was held on July 2 in Moscow.
“I hope that those of the Kurds who want to normalize relations with Damascus understand the provocative nature and great danger of such games,” Lavrov said.
The major ally of the United States in eastern Syria across the Euphrates is the Kurdish association of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Together, they control the Syrian oil and gas fields in the region.
The US-led international coalition is using SDF forces in Syria in military actions against ISIL (organization banned in Russia). According to the data of the coalition office, the SDF lost in these actions more than 11 thousand killed and several tens of thousands wounded. The coalition’s losses were “very small.”
