Kurginyan: West understands that Russia lost the Cold War

14.05.2021, Moscow.

The West is confident that it “triumphally” defeated Russia in the Cold War, and this is why it feels contempt for the defeated side, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on May 9 in his video address.

The political scientist reminded the speech by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov who spoke about a new cold war between Russia and the West. The foreign minister drew a parallel between the current cold war and the previous one, indicating its new feature, the lack of West’s respect for Russia, while it “respected, albeit hated” the USSR.

“Sergey Lavrov finds this to be mysterious, strange, unnatural, counter-intuitive…  As for me, I think it is completely natural,” Kurginyan said.

Certain members of the elite, according to the political scientist, urge Russians to “celebrate the Belovezhye accords because this is where we finally abandoned ‘the despised commie mediocrity.’ However, the West knows what this treason that Yeltsin, Kravchuk, and Shushkevich committed in December 1991 is really worth, and no one there alleges that we ourselves decided to reject that ‘terrible heritage.’”

Kurginyan explained the West’s logic, “We, the West, defeated the Soviet Union and communism in the Cold War. The disintegration of the Soviet Union and the collapse of communism are the result of our victory, which is essentially no different than an actual war. Because we were fighting, we put in huge effort for this victory, and we achieved it.”

The West is most happy to have won without an actual war, which could have been nuclear and “would have become its end, but it has reached this triumphantly.”

“Over all these post-Soviet decades it has been celebrating this as its achievement,” Sergey Kurginyan concluded.

On April 28, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia and the West would live in a new cold war or “something worse” because during the cold was “we had mutual respect that we are lacking today.”
