Tolerance turning into business

Promotion of tolerance in the USA is becoming a well-paid service, Rossa Primavera News Agency‘s editorial reads.

Previously, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), after it faced criticism for too racially homogeneous casting, had to announce measures to improve the situation. In particular, the Association promised to consult third-party organizations and experts in order to ensure a more multi-cultural environment.

While some consider “tolerance” as a convenient political platform, for others it becomes a real business. These sorts of services, unlike usual “consulting services,” cannot be rejected, because e.g. economic tricks is something one can study himself, but racial or gender discrimination has too vague interpretation, so anyone can be accused any moment. Therefore, one can easily imagine a two-hand game when human rights activists “expose” some injustice, which can only be resolved by professional providers selling “justice.”

One of the most consistent critics of HFPA is the Time’s Up human rights foundation. According to the New York Post, the foundation spends a major part of the donations for salaries of its officials, but not to aid to discrimination victims.

Among professional campaigners for women’s rights, blogger Anita Sarkeesian is known in the USA. In 2012, she launched fundraising against discrimination in video games. The donated amount was almost $160 thousand.

Sarkeesian criticized game developers for lack of understanding of the feministic ideas, and in 2019 she openly offered them her services as an advisor.
