In contrast to Trumpism, the policy of Democrats has an ideology, and this is a problem for Russia, member of the Presidium of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy Aleksandr Losev said on January 13 on the air of Vesti FM.
“The problem is that Trump for Russia is just business, nothing personal but business. This is quite a pragmatic approach. Democrats, however, are an ideology, or two ideologies,” the expert said.
The two ideologies, according to Losev, are neo-liberalism and neo-conservatism.
He believes that the former is trying to control markets by declaring principles of alleged open market democracy and free competition. Actually, however, neo-liberals promote strong protectionism, state interference, intervention, and not only by the US state, but also by non-governmental actors, i.e. US-based corporations and such institutions as IMF, the World Bank etc.
“Neo-liberalism is substitution of international law and transnational institutions with things like tolerance, human rights, liberal moral people etc. Also, neo-liberalism is the control over advanced technology by the hegemon state,” the expert explained.
As for the neo-conservative concept, it is based on using military and technological force to achieve political goals.
“The problem of ideology is that it is above economy. Ideology produces a system of values, life imperatives, control mechanisms, and means to achieve the goals, i.e. political doctrines. Economy is secondary here. They are ready to sacrifice something,” Losev concluded.
On November 7, American political scientist, General Director of The National Interest journal Dimitri Simes said that for Trotskyist neo-conservatives from the US Democratic Party, Russia is a threat because it is an alternative West with different values.
