Lavrov calls on Baku and Yerevan to ceasefire

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called on Armenia and Azerbaijan for immediate ceasefire on July 13, reports Russian Foreign Ministry press service.

The head of the foreign ministry had telephone conversations with his colleagues from Armenia and Azerbaijan.

An escalation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border was discussed. Sergey Lavrov called on the opposing parties to immediately ceasefire, to exercise restraint in light of previously made commitments and proposals from the representatives of Russia, the US and France as co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group and personal representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, ” said the Foreign Ministry.

Russia will continue to act as an intermediary in the conflict, stressed Lavrov, “both in its national capacity and within the framework of co-chairmanship in the OSCE Minsk Group”, stated the Foreign Ministry.

The Russian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of a responsible approach to their assessments by all members of the OSCE Minsk Group and called for avoiding statements and actions that provoke or cause increasing tension.

It should be noted that the conflict broke out on July 12. On July 13, the situation along the border is still turbulent. Armenian Defense Ministry reported another shelling near the border in the village of Chinari.
